A truck driver is currently in critical condition at a hospital after being trapped in the debris of his cabin for over two and a half hours following an accident in Officer, located southeast of Melbourne.
The incident, which involved a collision between two trucks, occurred on the Princes Freeway around 12:20 PM on Wednesday.
This accident resulted in the closure of all outbound lanes on the freeway, necessitating the Air Ambulance to land on the road near the site of the crash.
A large response team, including numerous police officers, paramedics, firefighters, and volunteers from the State Emergency Service, worked diligently for several hours to rescue the trapped driver, who is in his 50s. He was subsequently airlifted to The Alfred Hospital with serious injuries affecting both his upper and lower body.
The driver of the second truck involved in the accident did not sustain any injuries.
Traffic congestion in the vicinity persisted into the afternoon as a result of the incident.
Authorities are currently conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the collision.
