Adam Mitula, a member of Reform UK who faced suspension due to allegations of making racist and antisemitic remarks, has been appointed as the election agent for three candidates from the party in Manchester in advance of the elections scheduled for May 7.
In February, Mitula, who was serving as an interim campaign manager in Tameside, acknowledged his suspension as a party member while an investigation was underway. This action followed the emergence of evidence suggesting he had shared a deeply offensive racial slur directed at Black individuals, as well as derogatory comments regarding Jewish women.
A recently released election notice indicates that Mitula will now serve as the election agent for Reform candidates Aron Webb, Audra Murray, and Daniel Bennett in three wards within Tameside.
Additionally, Mitula appeared to have expressed agreement with a Holocaust denier regarding the number of Jewish deaths during the Nazi era, claiming those figures had been overstated. He later clarified that his comments had been misinterpreted.
Both Reform UK and Mitula have been contacted for their perspectives on his renewed involvement in the campaign for the local elections on May 7, during which the party is anticipated to make significant gains.
This development occurs amid a wave of dismissals, suspensions, and resignations among senior figures within Reform UK, including several candidates from Scotland and Wales, as well as Chris Parry, a prominent candidate for mayor in Hampshire, and Simon Dudley, who serves as the party’s spokesperson on housing.
Jackie Olden, a Green Party candidate for Denton South in Tameside—one of the regions where Mitula is active—criticized Reform UK’s leadership, stating, “We have repeatedly observed a trend of comments and actions from the Reform leadership that seeks to normalize division within our communities.”
Olden further noted that residents in Tameside have already felt the repercussions of such tactics, asserting that Reform’s campaigning in Gorton and Denton has frequently utilized divisive messages that alienate segments of the community.
Allegations against Mitula, who previously served as the interim campaign manager for Matthew Goodwin during his unsuccessful bid for parliamentary office, were based on information collected by the anti-racism organization Hope Not Hate. An account associated with Mitula on the social media platform X has since been removed.
Hope Not Hate highlighted various posts from Mitula, including claims that “60-70%” of transgender individuals were pedophiles, statements expressing a refusal to “ever touch a Jewish woman,” and the use of a racial slur. Furthermore, The Guardian uncovered tweets from Mitula in which he asserted the existence of “Muslim no-go ghettos in the UK.” He also made remarks regarding Black fathers, suggesting, “They are the best at leaving mothers without support. However, those who genuinely care about families are commendable individuals.”
