A man suffering from severe injuries was discovered after being restrained by members of the community at Bray Park, located near Murwillumbah, last week.
The 34-year-old individual, who had a total of twelve outstanding warrants for his arrest, later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
Authorities from Strike Force Raison are currently looking into the circumstances surrounding this incident.
According to police reports, the man, who was wanted by New South Wales Police, was apprehended by two local residents on Bellevue Avenue at Bray Park around 4:40 AM last Wednesday.
Law enforcement was alerted to the scene after receiving reports of suspicious behavior, where they found the man with serious injuries, being held down by two individuals on the pavement.
NSW Ambulance paramedics provided immediate treatment before he was transported to Gold Coast Hospital in critical condition.
It has now been confirmed that he passed away in the hospital on Friday.
The investigation, led by detectives from Strike Force Raison, is actively ongoing, and they have interviewed several witnesses who were present at the scene.
Detective Sergeant Gary Sheehan from the Tweed-Byron Police District spoke to the media last week, noting that the man had exhibited suspicious behavior, prompting concerned neighbors to confront him.
“The residents intervened, and we understand that an altercation occurred,” he stated. “There were indications that objects may have been utilized during the confrontation; however, I cannot disclose further details as it remains part of the ongoing investigation.”
Investigators from Strike Force Raison continue to pursue leads in this case.
