R Madhavan and his wife Sarita’s relationship traces back to their time in a classroom, marking a journey of 27 years of marriage. The couple first crossed paths in 1991 during a personality development course held in Kolhapur. In a previous interview with Mashable India, Madhavan recounted their romantic beginnings, noting that he was actually Sarita’s instructor at the time. He emphasized that they did not start a relationship while she was his student.
At that time, Madhavan was engaged in teaching public speaking and communication skills. He explained, “I was in Kolhapur, and she was one of my students. She came to visit her cousin, who was attending my classes. Out of curiosity, she joined her cousin for my sessions and found my style of teaching appealing.”
He also clarified that their romantic relationship did not commence until after Sarita completed her studies and later became an air hostess. She expressed her gratitude by inviting Madhavan out for dinner. “We dined at a hotel in Kolhapur, and since that evening, she has taken care of me,” he chuckled.
In a discussion on Ranveer Allahbadia’s podcast, R Madhavan reflected on the dynamics of their marriage, explaining the reasons behind its success despite his career in acting. “Like any couple, we have our share of disagreements, but we maintain a strong mutual respect. For Sarita, I am not merely a national figure or an actor whose fame she must navigate. She sees me as an equal, and I never miss a chance to remind her how fortunate I am to have her in my life.”
After dating for eight years, R Madhavan and Sarita tied the knot in 1999. They welcomed their first child, Vedaant, in 2005. Vedaant has chosen a different path, opting not to pursue a career in the film industry, but instead focusing on swimming, where he achieved notable success by winning a silver medal for India at the Asian Age Group Swimming Championship in 2019.
