On Friday, President Donald Trump extended his congratulations to Taranjit Singh Sandhu following his recent appointment as the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, expressing his hopes for Sandhu’s success in this new role.
“Congratulations to Taranjit Sandhu on becoming the new Lt Governor of Delhi! As a seasoned diplomat and former Ambassador to the United States, he has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to enhancing the US-India relationship,” Trump stated on his social media platform, Truth Social.
Sandhu held the position of India’s Ambassador to the United States from 2020 to 2024.
“I wish him all the best in advancing the progress of Delhi and strengthening international connections,” Trump added.
Sandhu’s appointment as the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi took effect on March 5.
After concluding his service in the Indian Foreign Service, Sandhu became a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) shortly before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He was nominated by the BJP as its candidate for the Lok Sabha from Amritsar, though he was not successful in the election.
