Authorities to Safely Extract Hazardous Explosives Discovered in Adelaide Residence

A man aged 55 has been charged with explosives-related offenses following the discovery of unstable chemicals at his residence in Elizabeth Park.

Authorities dispatched the bomb squad to the location, with plans to safely extract the explosives today, according to police reports.

The individual, who also faces charges related to cannabis, is set to appear in court at Elizabeth Magistrates Court later today.

Last night, the South Australian Police bomb response team was alerted to the home in northern Adelaide after reports of explosives being present.

Police confirmed that the Bomb Response Unit would manage the safe removal of the hazardous materials from the Elizabeth Park property after establishing security around the area.

The arrested man is charged with possessing the means and materials necessary for the creation of explosives, in addition to drug-related offenses.

During their investigation, authorities found what they classified as “volatile explosive materials” and cannabis plants throughout the residence on Waytown Street.

The street has been closed to vehicular traffic, and the police have advised the public to steer clear of the vicinity, although they assured that there was no risk to nearby homes.

In a statement, police noted, “A further evaluation of the chemicals identified volatile explosive materials, prompting the involvement of SAPOL’s Bomb Response Unit.” They confirmed that the premises had been secured overnight and that the bomb squad would proceed with the safe removal of the explosives today.

In addition to the explosives charges, the man faces allegations of cultivating and possessing cannabis. Police have encouraged anyone with relevant information to reach out to Crime Stoppers.
